Armed Forces Day Celebrations - Ship & Submarine Tours
The SA Navy will open its ships and submarine to members of the public as part of the Chief of the South African National Defence Force Armed Forces Day celebrations in February.
Visitors will be able to tour the vessels and see the workings and layout of the following vessels:
Modern Type 209 Submarine - deployed for maritime surveillance and clandestine operations
Valour Class Frigate - deployed extensively in anti-piracy operations
Combat Support Ship - SAS DRAKENSBERG
Hydrographic Survey Vessel SAS PROTEA – the “White Lady” of the Navy
The SAS GALESHEWE and SAS ISAAC DYOBHA - Warrior Class Strike craft which were converted Offshore Patrol Vessels
River Class Coastal Minehunter
SAS UMHLOTI – commanded by the first African female
Visitors will gain access to visit the ships (which will be berthed at Quay’s no 2 and 3, Transnet Harbour) through the Fleming Gate (Settlers Highway) or from Jetty Street.

Saturday, 13 February: 10h00-14h00 (ships), 10h00-12h00 (submarine)
Sunday, 14 February: 10h00-14h00 (ships), 10h00-12h00 (submarine)
Monday, 15 February: 08h00-16h00 (school/institution scheduled tour)
Tuesday, 16 February: 08h00-16h00 (school/institution scheduled tour)
