On 6 April 2016 two exhibitions will open which explores the important role that art played as the social conscience of the country during and after Apartheid. The exhibitions are titled Transforming the collection (16 March – 15 July 2016) and Cultural Boycott to Pan African Dream (30 March – 5 June 2016). Selected artworks reflect on how artists engaged with politics and used art as a medium for protest. The exhibition further explores how art continues to play a vital role in the social development of South Africa. Transforming the collection (16 March – 15 July 2016) tells the story of the development of black artists from 1940 to the fall of apartheid.
