The PE Gilbert & Sullivan Society are proud to present EVITA, one of the best known creations of the amazing partnership between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice which has enjoyed sell out seasons around the world and been adored by millions of theatregoers worldwide. The musical attracted a host of new fans after the release of the 1996 film version starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas. EVITA tells the story of Argentinian first lady Eva Peron who used her charisma and street smarts to make a meteoric rise from humble beginnings as the illegitimate child of a rural landowner to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. EVITA tells Eva's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theatre's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored." Multi award winning director Robin Williams, is at the helm of this spectacular show with local powerhouse Candice Johnstone choreographing and Musical Direction in the talented hands of Richard Campbell. David Limbert will create his visual magic as Lighting Designer. The title role will be played by Chireen Ferreira, an accomplished singer, dancer and actress, who is no stranger to PE audiences. Joining Chireen are audience favourites Ace Magxaki as Che and Paul Leonard as Peron. Neville Staples makes a return to the G&S stage to play Magaldi while the role of Peron’s Mistress, will be shared by talented newcomers Bianca Bosch and Micayla Fillis. EVITA runs from Wednesday 16th May to Saturday 2nd June with performances from Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm and a matinee at 2.00pm on Saturday 26th May. Tickets are available at Computicket for just R110.
