Africa's largest family beach event returns to PE on Sunday

Woodridge College scholar, Amica de Jager, will be keen to secure another win in Sundays 3km swim following her 10km NMBA title last weekend.

The popular aQuellé Ocean Racing Series returns to Hobie Beach this Sunday morning for the 8th round of Season 12. Unique to Nelson Mandela Bay, the Series continues to offer families a selection of 7 simultaneously run events and over R20,000 in lucky draw prizes and medals each race day including the feature lucky draw prize of R1,500 cash.

This Sunday features no fewer than 4 swim events (400m, 1km, 2km and 3km distances) and 3 beach events (5km run, 5km walk and Kids 12 years and under 1km beach run), all starting at 9am from alongside Shark Rock pier.

Currently on a high from an exception EP Champs last weekend, undefeated ORS Season 12 swimmer Ian Venter of Pearson High School will be seeking yet another win in the 1km race. Having won both the 3km and 5km Provincial events at the Open Water Championships at Marina Martinique last weekend, Venter will be keen to continue this form through to the SPAR River Mile at the end of the month and the SA Open Water Swimming Championships the weekend after.

The Black siblings, Slate and Paige, will be keen to cement their position at the top of the leaderboard in the 2km swim after great wins in the previous round as will Amica de Jager and Kevin Richards in the 3km swim. The newly introduced 400m swim is the breeding ground for new talent and this being evident by the success of 10 year old Tiara Finnis and 12 year old Divan Fourie who had great wins last round. On the beach Belinda Niemand and Grobbie Grobler will be hoping for another win in the 5km beach walk whilst 13 year old Tara Sacke continues to dominate in the 5km Beach Run.

Registration for Sunday's races are available on race day from the grass section in front of the Hobie Club from 7.30am with late entries accepted till 08h45. See www.oceanracingseries.com for further information.
