NMMU- KALEIDOSCOPE DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA

August 25th, 2014; Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth- The NMMU Arts and Culture Department, headed by Mr Michael Barry, assisted by Motswako Communications, a 3rd year Public Relations group presents the Kaleidoscope Dance Extravaganza, “a celebration of diversity through dance”. The extravaganza will be on the 28th of August 2014 at 13:00 in the NMMU South Campus Auditorium.

The performers will consist of dancers and performers from NMMU’s dance societies such as the Ballroom, Hip Hop, Traditional, Contemporary and Ballet societies. The show will be representative of varieties of dance as a celebration of diversity; it will be themed on kaleidoscope which represents a complex number of patterns that when placed together produce a spectacular holistic image.

The show will be a culmination of all diversity month events and activities and its purpose is to celebrate the wealth in diversity NMMU as a university contains. Instead of focusing on a generic event or activity we decided on the extravaganza because it should be seen as an initiative towards dance upliftment and promotion within the institution; we have come to realize that dance as an art form as well as a form of expression for many of our students seems to have been neglected. We have been working hand in hand with the dance societies within the institution and have come to uncover a large variety of talent which led to the idea of hosting the Dance Extravaganza. In so doing, we not only showcase the wealth in talent NMMU has to offer but we also bring awareness of such societies to other students as well as encourage dance as an art form.

“More than an expression of freedom, dance is in fact, a way of life”- Miss Nicki-Ann Rayepen, the Dance Extravaganza Director. Miss Rayepen has expressed her passionate involvement in the performing arts and hope to impart her experience in the field to students who have yet to discover their the magnificence of dance as an art form as well as steer them to discover their talent.Nicki adds on “It will be a spectacular show which will leave the audience marvelled and yearning for more”.

The show also gives a final year Public Relations group to implement their theoretical expertise in a practical manner ensuring the success of the event and awarding them very much needed experience while preparing them for the corporate world. “It is a great opportunity which we have been awarded and will surely assist us after the completion of our degree” Tsholofelo Lebethe, one the group members.
The Dance Extravaganza will be in NMMU’s South Campus in Summerstrand and free of charge for everyone who wishes to attend.
