PE FESTIVAL OF RACING A SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND!

The Festival of Racing held a two day event at Fairview Racecourse which kicked off on Friday, 24 October when the East Cape Horse Care Unit in partnership with the Racing Association, raised in excess of R160 000 with the selling of races and auctioning of various racing and sport memorabilia.

The highly contested feature race on Friday was won by the talented Glen Kotzen-trained horse Light The Lights, owned by the Triple H Trust and ridden by jockey Greg Cheyne.

The final leg of the event, the Whisky and Cigar festival held yesterday, also didn't disappoint, as the vibey crowd enjoyed the exclusive offering. Fairview Racecourse Promotions Manager, Karin Le Roux says they are extremely pleased with the success of the day, notwithstanding the very windy conditions.

The feature race on yesterday's programme, the exciting Betting World Algoa Cup (GR3) over 2000m on turf, was won by Disco Al, trained by Joey Ramsden and ridden by Anton Marcus.

The Festival organisers ensured that racegoers in the Whiskey and Cigar Bedouin were not disappointed with spectacular live thoroughbred racing and entertainment which featured top artists.

Phumelela's national marketing manager and the man behind the new brand, Racing, Michael Varney commented, “We are pleased with the success of the event and wish to thank all who made it possible. The buzz and excitement around the event echoes our mantra that Racing is indeed a rush."

As PE's Festival of Racing dust settles, Fairview Racecourse is getting ready to host another top event at its precinct on the 7th of November when local Lions and Rotary Clubs will host a combined service clubs charity race day.
