THE HAPPIEST 5K ON THE PLANET COLOURS THE WORLD OF THOUSANDS IN PORT ELIZABETH
(Port Elizabeth, 24 August 2014) The original paint race, The Color Run™, gave thousands
of locals and visitors the time of their lives as the event transformed Port Elizabeth
into a myriad of colour and happiness.
Five thousand Color Runners descended at the start line of a 5km route at Nelson
Mandela Metropolitan University, to celebrate the values intrinsic to The Color Run
brand: health, happiness and individuality. Despite the poor weather conditions, an
occasional ray of sunshine and a rainbow emerged, shining hope over the friendly city
Color Runners.
Port Elizabeth local event coordinator, Michael Zoetmulder and his team from Zports
were behind the success in Port Elizabeth. In each colour zone, Color Runners were
showered by 100 volunteers with clouds of brightly coloured powder. The race ended
with a colour-throwing party hosted by Algoa FM, where Color Runners and spectators
enjoyed vibrant colour blasts, music, local food and entertainment.
The unique proposition of The Color Run™ is more about having fun than competing for
Olympic gold. 60% of Port Elizabeth’s Color Runners were first-time runners, participating
for the sheer joy of doing something fun and healthy with family and friends.
Fortunately, there is a lot more than just memories and technicolour photos that stay
behind. The Color Run™ carries a huge social ethos, welcoming socially disadvantaged
children to take part in the festival. The lucky runners this year were the beneficiaries from
United Through Sport, a local charity providing coaches from overseas to uplift the local
community through sport.
The Color Run Port Elizabeth was a phenomenal success but this was truly made by the
thousands of incredible participants that have proven the event is here to stay in the
Eastern Cape, come rain or shine.
