Art in the Arboretum: Under the Trees

This year’s Van Stadens Flower Festival has something new for you to discover … the Reserve’s very first art exhibition!

Tucked away in the Arboretum, in the old nursery area, Art in the Arboretum: Under the Trees brings together local artists, creativity and the natural beauty of the Wildflower Reserve.

Gqeberha-based artist Erin Smith has been working behind the scenes with FOVS and the NMB Reserve Management team to help bring the exhibition to life.

Erin’s own work spans sculpture, site-specific and land art, often exploring our relationship with nature and the places we call home. She has been instrumental in helping shape this new creative space at the Reserve, and we’re excited for festival-goers to experience the artistic touch she and the participating artists are bringing to the Arboretum.

The theme Under the Trees has been left open for each artist to interpret in their own way. From biodiversity and heritage to belonging, ecology and our connection to the natural world, the artworks will offer different perspectives on the world around us.

As you explore the festival, take a little detour into the Arboretum, wander beneath the trees, discover the artworks and enjoy this creative addition to the Reserve and festival.

Some of the artwork will also be available to purchase, so you may even find a special piece to take home with you.
