Christmas at the Opera

After a highly successful launch in September, Mandela Bay Opera ends the year with Christmas at the Opera: a festive celebration that blends the drama of opera with the warmth and joy of Christmas.

This concert brings together some of the Eastern Cape’s finest singers and musicians in a programme of stirring arias, ensembles, and carols that capture the true spirit of the season.

Featuring Lindokuhle Gushu, Njabulo Mthimkhulu, Anele Mutei, Sinentlahla Ndala, Jabulile Ngowebo, Khaya Hadi and the Le Strada Chorale, with pianists Kobus Buys and Johann van Niekerk, the programme includes excerpts from La Bohème, Cavalleria Rusticana, Tosca and Messiah, woven together with beloved Christmas carols.

Proceeds will go to the Care Haven Psychiatric Centre, a Gqeberha-based organization providing residential care, rehabilitation and community reintegration for people living with mental illness — offering hope, dignity, and support to those rebuilding their lives.
