Isankwane Exhibition Opening

Isankwane is a hat or a head covering made from hard wool to have a shape of the skull. According to the Xhosa tradition or culture, Isankwane cannot be worn by anyone, it can be worn by elderly men who deserve to be called men.
Isankwane exhibition is a three-week exhibition that is specifically about engaging men in the conversation of good leadership. The exhibition content focuses on the engagement of men and the unique male perspective in inclusion and hierarchy. However, individuals who do not identify as males are invited to gain perspective on engaging men as allies. The exhibition aims to inspire, to encourage men to be good fathers, good husbands and good leaders. The purpose of Isankwane exhibition is to offer men the opportunity to come together in greater strengths for their families and businesses with visual and performing art.

Isankwane exhibition is conceptualised by our Intern, Mtshatsha Thandolwethu. At the beginning of this year he organised Iingcinga Nenjongo exhibition and now he will curate the last exhibition of 2018.
