My Funny Valentine

One of the most popular shows on the G&S Calendar is our annual Valentine’s cabaret which returns with a bang this year! We have a fabulous line-up of local singers and dancers led on and off stage by Director Rose Cowpar.

Angela Barnard makes a welcome return as Vocal Director and Abi Ranwell, who first performed with G&S at just 12 years old, makes her G&S debut as choreographer and we couldn’t be more proud! This is a real family reunion and, after such a challenging couple of years, we can’t wait to get audiences singing along and tapping their feet to some great music.

Audiences can enjoy hits from the charts, the classics and the screen plus some hilarious comedy numbers. This year’s selection features songs made famous by Lady Gaga, Nina Simone, Elton John, Bruno Mars, John Legend and many more.
This year’s cast includes the multitalented Kasvia von Memerty, who proudly sang the National Anthem at last year’s rugby test as well as G&S veterans Tarryn Light, Angela Barnard, Richard Campbell and Phil Cowie. Rising Star Brooklyn Plaatjies make her Valentine’s debut alongside Caeleigh Heradien, Aiden Syce and Duwayne Witbooi all of whom wowed audiences in The Alternative last year. That’s just a taste of the wonderful talent who will be performing an eclectic range of songs to suit any taste. Joining the singers will be our dynamic dancers and guest choreographers Carl-Lee Magnus of Feet on Fire and Ashleigh Maling-Nel.

Joining the cast this year are 2 very special guests. Mariloe Booysen, professional actor, singer and creator of the A Coloured In Girl project to mentor and develop young Coloured female writers, will be joined by the incredibly talented Tammeryn Jantjies, a graduate of the project. G&S is thrilled to support this wonderful project.

My Funny Valentine runs from the 10th to the 14th of February at the Savoy Theatre with shows at 7.30pm on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th, 2.00pm on Saturday and Sunday and 7.00pm on Valentine’s evening 14th February where patrons can also choose to enjoy a 3 course meal. Tickets are just R100, or R750 for a table of 8 for evening shows or R80 for all tickets for the Sunday Matinee. On Valentine’s evening patrons can choose to enjoy a special package which includes a 3 course meal and the show for just R260.

Patrons will be seated at tables and are welcome to bring along snacks to enjoy during the show. Finger snacks will be sold at our Coffee Bar to build your own platter and delicious burgers will be sold at the weekend shows. The Savoy bar and coffee bar will be open for all shows. Full covid protocols will be observed for the safety of patrons, staff and our production team.

Although G&S are celebrating Valentine‘s Day, this is a show for everyone, not just couples - have a girl’s night out, get together with a group of friends or bring your book club or work party. The Valentine’ Cabaret is the major G&S fundraiser for the year so please support G&S and keep the great theatre coming in 2022.
