Experience the ATKV Tienertoneel Competition in Port Elizabeth

Talent; Youth; A fierce passion for theatre. 180 High school theatre groups from across South Africa and Namibia will participate in this year’s ATKV Tienertoneel Competition. It is the 51st time that the oldest project of the ATKV will be presented.

The regional festival in Port Elizabeth starts on the 5th of August and runs till the 8th of August at The Little Theatre at The Athenaeum, Belmont Terrace, Central. Admission is free and each evening starts at 17:00.

Schools making their debut on stage are Hoërskool McLachlan, Hoërskool Paul Sauer, Global Leadership Academy, Hoërskool Nico Malan, Selborne College, Hoërskool Brandwag and Hoërskool Bergrivier. There will be 9 plays competing from Wednesday to Friday with the best four plays competing on Saturday.

The judges are Ira Blanckenberg and Cintaine Schutte. Pedro Kruger and Hennie van Greunen will join the panel on Saturday night as guest judges.
Pedro Kruger: "It is great to see the passion for theatre that I experienced in my school years still going strong. The ATKV is doing invaluable work with the youth by means of the Tienertoneel Competition. They are our players and audience members of tomorrow."

The ATKV-Tienertoneel Final will be held at the Clover Aardklop National Arts Festival - Potchefstroom from 6 to 10 October. The ten finalists will be announced during the first week of September after the ten regional festivals.

Big names like Anél Alexander, Anton Treurnich, Christo Davids, Francois Toerien, Jacques Bessenger, Jak de Priester, Patrick Shabangu, Pedro Kruger, Roeline Daneel and Viljé Maritz honed their talents on the ATKV-Tienertoneel stage.
