Ironman African Championships

The ISUZU IRONMAN African Championships offers a challenging yet breathtaking course for athletes, featuring a swim, bike, and run component. Here's a breakdown of each segment:

**SWIM (3.8 km):**

- The swim leg consists of a one-loop course starting and finishing at Hobie Beach.
- Athletes swim parallel to the shoreline, passing Humewood Beach and Kings Beach before returning to Hobie Beach.

**BIKE (180 km):**

- The bike course involves two loops covering a total distance of 180 km.
- Cyclists travel along Marine Drive, proceeding through the city to Mount Pleasant and then through Seaview and Beachview villages.
- The route offers scenic views over Maitland’s and includes a turnaround point in the De Stades River Valley.
- Cyclists return to Hobie Beach via the picturesque village of Skoenmakerskop to either start their second lap or transition to the run course.

**RUN (42.2 km):**

- The run begins with athletes exiting transition and running along the perimeter of Transition towards Humewood.
- The course includes a new IRONMAN bridge section along the beach and passes through the iconic Happy Valley entrance.
- Runners continue along Marine Drive towards Humerail, staying on the landside lane.
- The route proceeds past Kings Beach and turns into Driftsands Drive for the first turning point.
- Runners share the dual carriageway with cyclists along the beachfront sections of Marine Drive.
- At the far end of the course in Summerstrand, athletes turn right into Admiralty Way and reach the second turnaround point near Nelson Mandela Bay University.
- After completing the 42.2 km (26.2 miles), athletes return to Happy Valley, cross the IRONMAN beach bridge one final time, and reach the Finish Line at Hobie Beach.
