In association with the Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism and celebration of tourism month, Nelson Mandela Bay breast cancer survivors got a group together for a Pink Tour to Addo National Park to share their stories of survival and treatment options available in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Herald Columnist, Kazeka Mashologu Kuse who recently underwent her mastectomy operation, chemotherapy treatment in March after being diagnosed with breast cancer stage 3 created a group of breast cancer survivors called The Pink Warriors who can share their stories, raise awareness and talk about treatment options available in NMB for other women in a relaxed setting and approached NMBT to assist.

“People still hide their diagnosis, suffer alone and I was sadly admonished by family members for being vocal about my journey of struggle with the disease on social media” Mashologu Kuse said. “After attending three funerals where people died of cancer, I was also shocked to see the lack of available information and state health care people were unaware of” she added.

Kuse rates Livingston Oncology amongst the best of treatment options the city has to offer. “The facilities are world class, the staff service is superb and they are deeply empathetic of the emotional rollercoaster one has to go under the journey. I met some of the best oncology specialists there and received care and information there – something people are unaware of when they think of Livingston.”

The Pink Tour to Addo Park provided a relaxed atmosphere where breast cancer survivors could share their hardships, journeys of survival with the disease and treatment options whilst enjoying local parks that NMB has to offer.

Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism Marketing Manager, Titus Chuene says it’s important for locals to have access to tourism. “Addo National Park boasts the Big 7 and he only park in the world to have that Southern Wright Whale and Great White Shark.” Chuene hopes the tour followed by the luncheon would allow the Pink Warriors a moment of rest of their difficult journey and enjoy the National Park on their doorstep.

Red Square from Sunnyridge Park offered facial vouchers for the women that were on the Pink Tour.
