ROCK GIRLS COMMEMORATE MANDLEA DAY WITH A 5 KM WALK OF STORY TELLING

IMBEWU S.A. in partnership with Development Partners has collaborated with Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s Birthday on the 18th July by hosting the Rock Girls on a 5km walk through New Brighton. Rock Girl is a grassroots movement used to inspire, encourage, and invest in girl-initiated and girl-focused projects in the private and public sectors.

The Rock Girls who will take to the streets of New Brighton on Saturday will be there to share their stories with each other and the community. The rock girls will have 40 representatives from New Brighton who will lead the way. In addition there will be 35 students from the United Kingdom joining the initiative whilst visiting Nelson Mandela Bay and they request the communities to come out and join in on the walk.

Mr Mike Pantsi confirms, “The reason behind the commemorative walk taking place in New Brighton is because of the 1952 Defiance campaign which was led by the late Raymond Mhlaba who was a comrade of Nelson Mandela.”

Ms Mandlakazi Skefile, CEO of Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism confirms, “As tourism representatives we will be proud to participate in the walk which contributes to nation building and destination promotion that is led by young women who are educating and empowering themselves.”

The walk commences at 7.00am from the Red location Museum.

Registration dates is Thursday 16 & Friday, 17 July from 16:00 - 18:00 at the following places: Nangoza Jebe, Spar New Brighton and Red Location Backpackers Lodge and entry is free.
