WINTER ADVENTURES IN NELSON MANDELA BAY

#Sharethebay and Win!

The expression "a picture paints a thousand words" rings true to Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT) as the #ShareTheBay campaign where citizens of the Bay are invited to share pictures of them being tourists in their own back yards kicks off to usher in the winter season in the Friendly City.

Aimed at showcasing just how much fun can be had in the city despite the slight winter chill, this three month campaign also aims to encourage visitors and locals to explore the Bay, capture their authentic experiences and share them on NMBT's social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and NMBT's website using the hashtags #ShareTheBay and #MyNelsonMandelaBay.

Participants stand a chance to be featured daily on NMBT's social media channels, win fantastic weekly prizes which include accommodation, adventure activities in and around the city and the 5 in 1 Nelson Mandela Bay Pass cards that allow free and discounted entry into a variety of attractions and facilities in and around the Bay. The activities range from scuba diving, sand boarding to game drives and more.

"Winter campaigns challenge the myth that winter is an undesirable time to travel. The key success to any winter campaign is to incorporate the private sector and the means to conversion into the campaign. Digital competitions, packages and highlighting the destinations unique activities are a core factor when trying to attract low-season business", said Mandlakazi Skefile, Chief Executive Officer of NMBT.

She added that while it might be the winter season there is still plenty to do in Nelson Mandela Bay. It is important for the region to maximise winter's potential as our region has a moderate climate all year round. Recent statistics show that NMB's visitor numbers and guest nights have undergone significant growth in the year-to-date.

According to the Eastern Cape Barometer 2015 published by the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT), tourism in the province is on the rise with 3.2 million domestic travellers having visited the Eastern Cape in 2014 and spending an estimated R3 billion in total direct value. This number was up by 1.2 million trips compared to the year before.

"We're not here to just host guests while the sun shines. The Bay is a great year-round destination and we work closely with industry to drive sustainable business and retain the vibrancy for which this city is well known," Skefile concluded.
