The Nippers Championships is a fully representative event accommodating all the race groups of South Africa, focusing on the previously disadvantaged groups. The Nippers consisting of both girls and boys aged between 8 years and 13 years.These young competitors are trained by voluntary coaches and also assisted by parents. enables them to test their beach and sea skills to the highest levels. The Nippers are also trained in life skills, first aid, communication, water safety and airway resuscitation with cardiac massage. Thus this is in preparation for them to move up to the Junior level which begins at the age of 14 years which entails them to do beach duties and perhaps getting an opportunity to actually save lives, noting that safety and vigilance are both a top priority on the beach and surf.
