Know your Bay campaign

The Algoa Bay Branch of WESSA (The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) invites you and your friends to a lively dialogue on the important issue of “Sustainable Fishing” in Algoa Bay and our estuaries.

  • Dr. Lorien Pichegru, Algoa Bay Hope Spot committee chair and NMMU researcher

Guest speakers

  • Wayne Rudman, well known scribe on angling in the region whose column appears each Friday in the Herald,

  • Dr. Paul Cowley, Fish Biologist at SA Institute of Aquatic Biodiversity andhead of a large “Catch and Release Programme”,

  • Dr. Ane Oosthuizen, Marine Coordinator for SANPARKS who is working on the extension of Marine Protected Areas in the Bay component of the Addo National Park.

Dr. Shirley Parker-Nance, NMMU researcher and Pro Dive Marine Biologist will provide an update on the proposed Fish Farm to be situated off Millers and Pollok Beach.
