NMMU MUSIC DEPARTMENT PRESENTS A JAZZ CONCERT FEATURING NDUDUZO MAKHATHINI - THE STANDARD BANK YOUNG ARTIST AWARD WINNER FOR JAZZ.

On Wednesday 18 March 2015 at 19h30 in the South Campus Auditorium, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Music Department will present a concert featuring jazz pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, the Standard Bank Young Artist Award Winner for Jazz in 2015.

Originally from Kwazulu-Natal, Nduduzo studied jazz piano at the Durban Institute of Technology. Since graduating in 2005, his career has included performances at local and international venues and festivals with numerous South African jazz greats including the late Zim Ngqawana, Marcus Wyatt, Herbie Tsoaeli, Sydney Mnisi and Carlo Mombeli. In addition to his career as a jazz instrumentalist, Nduduzo is also a composer, arranger and educator and is based at the University of Fort Hare.

He has recorded two original albums – ‘Mother Tongue’ and ‘Sketches of Tomorrow’ – and these will be on sale at the concert. He is currently working on his third album called ‘Listening to the Ground’.

Nduduzo will be performing with his quartet which features a stellar lineup of acclaimed South African jazz artists, namely, Sakhile Simani (trumpet), Ariel Zamonsky (bass) and Ayanda Sikade (drums).

The NMMU Music Department is proud to be hosting Nduduzo and his quartet. Don’t misas it, this is sure to be an exciting and memorable event.

Entrance to the concert is R50 Adults, R30 Pensioners and R20 Scholars.
