SAMREC penguin release with acoustic tag
31 August 2014 - 31 August 2014
Rehabilitated penguins will be released from SAMREC (South African Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre) at 9:00 on Sunday 31 August.
One of the birds will be fitted with an acoustic tag by Michelle Bradshaw (Bayworld) – this will allow its movements to be recorded over the next year by an array of listening stations in Algoa Bay. This forms part of a study investigating the feasibility of using ultrasonic acoustic telemetry to track penguins.
Watch how the tag is attached and join in the excitement as the birds return to the sea.
