Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Annual Lecture with Prof Somadoda Fikeni

The Faculty of Humanities in partnership with the Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust are hosting the 2nd Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Public Lecture and would like to invite the community to attend.

Background:
In 2021, Archbishop Thabo and Lungi Makgoba as well as the Trustees of the Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust (ATMDT) endowed an Annual Lecture at Nelson Mandela University on Value-based Leadership. The Lecture provides an opportunity for the Trust and the University to critically engage on Value-based Leadership. The ATMDT has endowed this Annual Lecture to several other universities in the country since 2015, and Mandela University will be hosting its second lecture in 2023 and, as the Faculty of Humanities, we are hosting it on behalf of the University.

The 2023 Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Annual Lecture at Nelson Mandela University is scheduled to take place at 15h00-17h30 on the 5th May 2023 at the North Campus Conference Centre, Nelson Mandela University.

However, the Lecture is preceded by a Masterclass that starts at 10h30 to 13h00 where the invited keynote speaker, Professor Somadoda Fikeni, will be engaging students and the staff in general. Professor Fikeni is invited to share his insights on the theme of the Lecture based on his perceptions and evaluation of ethical principles and practices that are the bedrock of Value-based Leadership.

Archbishop Thabo and Lungi Makgoba state in the endowment that the Annual Lecture ‘is in Memoriam of our parents who have raised and nurtured us through values’, and it provides an opportunity for the Trust and the University to foster critical dialogue on Value-Based Leadership.
