Bach, Borodin & Bubbles

Hopefield Country House in Addo has become well-known for presenting exceptional classical music concerts in a relaxed country setting coupled with wonderful wines and canapés. On the 6th of November 2016 this will be no different.

Performing at Hopefield Country House for the first time, we are excited to welcome Polish pianist, Joanna Wicherek and the newly formed GATE String Quartet from Grahamstown. Their programme comprises a keyboard concerto by JS Bach, a string quartet by the Russian master Alexander Borodin as well as the exciting and technically demanding Piano Quintet by Ern Dohnányi.

Joanna studied piano, chamber music, historical keyboards and organ in Warsaw (Frederic Chopin Music University), Freiburg (Musikhochschule Freiburg) and Vienna (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst). Currently residing in South Africa she maintains a full schedule of solo recitals as well as chamber music collaborations throughout the country. The GATE String Quartet is based in Grahamstown and comprises Duncan Samson & Hayley Jackson (violin), Lizzie Rennie (viola) and Lindsay Johnston (cello).

While enjoying the music, guests can sip on some of the best “Méthode Cap Classique” sparkling wines South Africa has to offer. Included are “Miss Molly” from Môreson Wine Estate, “Entheos” form Weltevrede in Bonnievale, Simonsig “Kaapse Vonkel”, “Belle Rosé” from Haute Cabrière as well as samplings from L’Ormarins, Bramon and Cederberg Winery.

After the concert guests will be treated to canapés and other snacks in the garden of Hopefield Country House.
