The Friendly City Youth Ballet in collaboration with CAPE TOWN CITY BALLET is presenting a feast of ballet, entitled BALLET BOUQUET at the Savoy Theatre on 11th & 12th July.
This production of extracts from much loved ballets is staged by Robin van Wyk, Artistic Director of Cape Town City Ballet and is his 10th production for FCYB.
65 Local dancers who were auditioned by van Wyk in March, and who have been hard at rehearsal since then, will perform a potted version of THE NUTCRACKER – Act 1 & 2, featuring adorable little ‘Chinese’, ‘Ice Faires, ‘Bon Bons’ and ‘Mirletons’ , ‘Snow Flakes’ and ‘Party Children’. Our local dancers will be joined by stars of the Cape Town City Ballet performing breathtaking pas de deux’s from The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Romeo& Juliet and Spring Waters.
CTCB senior soloist Angela Hansford, is an ex Port Elizabeth dancer who has made great strides at CTCB,working her way through the ranks of the corps de ballet, to soloist, to senior soloist. Revil Yon is also an ex Port Elizabethan. Laura Bosenberg is currently CTCB’s prima ballerina and will be seen in the beautifully lyrical SPRING WATERS pas, partnered by Thomas Thorne.
FCYB senior dancers are also given the opportunity to perform extracts from SWAN LAKE and Siobhan Day, Channae Erens, Vicki Pretorius &Tarryn Wright will dance the roles of ‘The Fiance’s” and Will also be seen in The Swan Quartette .
It has been many years since P E balletomanes have seen a ballet production with so many guest dancers from Cape Town City Ballet, who come to us straight after their production at the Grahamstown Festival, and hopefully with strong audience support, will not be the last.
