Are you ready to be crowned Sedgwick’s Original Old Brown’s King of Draughts? Sedgwick’s is setting out to find the Eastern Cape’s 2015 draughts league champion in a series of knock-out competitions at selected taverns across Port Elizabeth, Mthatha and East London. And the grand prize? A share of R175 000!
To enter, visit your nearest local tavern participating in the competition and buy a 750ml bottle of Sedgwick’s Original Old Brown. Make sure you register before 13 May by dialling *120*1774# from your cell phone to qualify and participate in the matches starting on 16 May. Participating taverns will be displaying the Sedgwick’s Draughts League signs and posters.
Games will be played on Fridays and Saturdays. During the first round of the competition the players registered at a particular tavern will play against one another to find the tavern champion. In round two the tavern winners in each region will play against each other to find the regional winner. In the final round on 11 July in the Centenary Hall in Port Elizabeth, the regional winners will take on one another to decide who will be Sedgwick’s 2015 King of Draughts.

Draughts, also known as “checkers”, for outsiders looks like a deceptively easy board game but its many adherents in the Eastern Cape will tell you the game, which dates back to the 1400’s, requires great skill to trap and outwit one’s opponents.
