On the 2nd of November 2010, Deirdre Kohler launched her book "Brutal Honesty" Deirdre Kohler age 34, born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and mom of three, was diagnosed with a brain tumour shortly after the birth of her third child in 2006. Since then she took a good hard look at her life and decided to live it to the full. In the 4 years she has travelled to 5 countries, started painting, ran an online blog and opened a coffee shop! Some things most people wont achieve in their lifetime! Kohler spent many years on the internet blogging which was followed by people from over 52 countries. It is from this start that the book was written. One person in particular, Dan O'Connor, from the USA is mentioned in her book. Dan's wife Sandy passed away from a brain tumour shortly after Deirdre's diagnosis. Over 3 years of correspondence, Deirdre and Dan discussed death and living with a brain tumour. Their emails are heartbreaking but yet encouraging. Deirdre plans to open a support group called "My Brain Matters" to assist people suffering from brain diseases. She is working with BT Buddies UK to bring brain tumour awareness exhibitions to South Africa. Deirdre's book details her optimistic and even humorous views on living day by day with one of the most feared cancers. It is ideal as a Christmas gift, for some inspiration or to uplift someone going through a difficult time. The book donates a % of its sales to starting the support group.
