Candice Johnstone Dance Academy - Flamboyance

The term flamboyant suggests the tendency to attract attention because of one’s exuberance, confidence, flair and sense of stylishness. Acclaimed choreographer Candice Johnstone plans to do exactly that by showcasing her ballet and contemporary studio at the Port Elizabeth Opera House on 8 and 9 June.

“The Dance Academy’s performances will highlight a fresh approach to dance, celebrate the freedom of movement and incorporate all the things we love about South Africa,” said Johnstone. “The production will be pertinent to our contemporary country but relates to our roots and the place we call home. The tone, quality of the dancers and costumes and the lighting by Dave Limbert will add to the show’s visual flamboyance.”

Johnstone has successfully staged several shows since 2005 and Port Elizabeth audiences have come to expect quality productions from the studio which has performed the likes of Dancers et Haute Couture, I Have a Dream, Queen of Dance and I love to Dance.

Candice Johnstone is well known for her memorable big scale local productions such as The King and I, Evita, Chicago, Cabaret, Fiddler on the Roof, Footloose, Guys & Dolls, High School Musical and Oklahoma and has won numerous awards for her outstanding contribution to the performing arts.
