15 April 2011 - 15 April 2011
It is once again that time of year where the Cape Recife Conservancy will be hosting their Annual Golf Day for the purpose of raising funds for the Conservancy! The Golf Day will be held on Friday the 15th April 2011 at The Humewood Golf Course and we plan on taking this year’s event to a whole new level! We encourage one and all to be a part of this fun filled day in the form of: • Sponsors • Donations • Advertising, but most of all we’d love to see you there and therefore urge you to • PARTAKE!!! The Cape Recife Conservancy was established in 2008 to effectively conserve the unique Cape Recife area and its biodiversity, providing a place of enrichment and enjoyment for all. The CRConservancy comprises the Cape Recife Nature Reserve, Summerstrand Hotel, Humewood Golf Club, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Transnet-Nation Ports Authority, Madiba Bay Leisure Park, SA Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre and the Pine Lodge Resort. The CRConservancy is also well supported by various environmental, sporting and community groups. The Cape Recife Conservancy has had a certain stigma attached to it in terms of crime in the region. We feel that it is important for past supporters as well as future ‘possible’ supporters to know where & how funds that were raised from last year’s golf day have been used. These funds have been injected straight back into the CRConservancy to pay rangers salaries & bicycles for patrolling the area, guards posted at the entrance, a GPS tracking system which have been put in place. These have all contributed to a successful decrease in reported car break-ins, abalone poaching and petty crimes. Marketing material, in the form of a website & brochures have also been designed and distributed to raise awareness of the benefits of the CRConservancy. The dramatic improvement in security has resulted in the area having become popular again with visitors, birders, walkers and family picnics. The need we have is to sustain paying ranger’s salaries and to keep improving security for everyone’s benefit. We also plans to involve more schools this year in fun beach clean-ups, additional educational signage and the development of an overnight hiking trail. As a separate activity, we have added donkey cart tours of the reserve for visitors, thereby creating additional opportunities, employment and homes for the 3 rescued donkeys. Closing date for entries will be the 12th April 2011. However should you decide on the last minute to sponsor/donate/partake, kindly email Janine on j9k@isat.co.za to confirm these details in time for the 15th April 2011.
