Centrestage presents: The Mumford Revolution @Old Grey

Mumford and Sons fans should get ready for some hand clapping and foot stomping as the Mumford Revolution takes hold at Old Grey on 30th and 31 May before heading to the Guild Theatre in East London in the second weekend of June.

The ultimate feel good, blue-grass/indie rock show not only features the music of the group which has taken the charts by storm, but also features current hits from artists who have been inspired by this uplifting new music craze.

After a national search for the best banjo player to showcase the bluegrass influenced sound, Centrestage is proud to feature the banjo-picking talents of guest artist Guy Collins, who flies in from Cape Town to front the line-up.

Also a superb slide guitar player, Collins fronts the popular Mother City band Mean Black Mamba. The bearded banjo player describes his music as “raw foot stomping roots music that grooves your body and soul.

Joining Collins in the other essential element of this style is another Centrestage newcomer, local boy Nicholas Fidler, whose name-sake holds true to his instrument. This talented music teacher rocks the fiddle on songs such as The Devil Went Down to Georgia, whilst Dueling Banjos also makes its obligatory appearance in the diverse line-up of material covered.

The newest Centrestage star in the making, Aston Wylie, follows up his impressive J-show debut on vocals, keyboards and guitar. Aston is particularly excited to be involved in this project as the Mumford sound played an influential role in his popular ‘Aston and Charlie’ duo. “I really love the feel-good, upbeat vibe this genre of music gives off. It’s got a happy-go-lucky feel to it and gets people moving. You definitely won’t be sitting still in your seat at this show,” Wylie says.

Long-time bluegrass fan Hugo Kleinhans, himself a banjo player, also revels in the opportunity to be part of this vibrant project. “Country and bluegrass music are two of my favourite genres and I can’t wait to play these songs live with such an amazing group of musicians. I’m sure we’ll get a Hoedown going on one of the nights!” Kleinhans comments.

Tiaan Uys also makes his first Centrestage outing as he swaps between T-bass, upright double bass and fretless bass

PE’s stand-out vocalist Wayne Kallis acts as musical director once again, whilst drums and the occasional unexpected comedy inserts will be provided by Gino Fabbri.

The Mumford sound is inspired by its folk, country and bluegrass roots and The Mumford Revolution promises to take you on musical journey through its evolution from the American Country Bluegrass & Irish Celtic influences to the Mumford & Sons hipster phenomenon we know and enjoy today.

Aside from the Mumford hits, artists such as The Lumineers, Phillip Phillips, Avicii, One Republic & Matthew Mole all get a showing and are bound to get you off your seat.

Songs such as James Blunt’s Bonfire Heart, One Direction’s Story of my Life and Daughtry’s Long live rock and roll all make it into the show by virtue of their driving kick-drum sound.

The revolution also takes in the likes of the Charlie Daniels band as well as the Dubliners, the Waterboys and a selection of Irish sing-along songs.

A show to be enjoyed by young and old, hipsters and hillbillies alike!! This one is not to be missed!
