Christmas in the Home

Gift and Craft Market

Dates: 28 November 2013 - 1 December 2013
Location: Moffet on Main Underground Parking Area, William Moffet Drive, Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabethans searching for that special Christmas gift or a well-deserved year-end treat can look forward to finding it when the annual Christmas in the Home market returns to Moffett on Main Lifestyle Centre on November 28.

The four-day gift and craft market will showcase the very best in handcrafts and design, with everything from stylish décor to gourmet foods and boutique-style clothing and accessories.

According to coordinator Elsje Smuts of Trueblue Communication and Events, Christmas in the Home provided an affordable platform for the country’s most gifted artists, craftsmen and entrepreneurs to showcase their inspired creations.

“Christmas in the Home is not just another craft market,” said Smuts.

“It offers the Port Elizabeth community a sophisticated design experience and a feast for the senses.”

With over 150 stalls to choose from, visitors to the upmarket expo will be spoiled for choice.

“Visitors can expect to see items they would not normally find in a shop,” said Smuts.

“Exhibitors who choose to sell their wares at Christmas in the Home don’t necessarily sell to stores. Many of these entrepreneurs use this as an exclusive platform to show their designs to the public.”

This year’s line-up would include exhibitors from as far afield as Mthatha, Upington and the Southern Cape, she said.

Smuts takes over the reigns of what has become a fixture on the PE calendar from previous owner Michelle Brussow, who managed it for the past nine years.

“The event originated as an ‘open day’ in a private home twelve years ago,” said Smuts.

“It has since evolved and moved venues accordingly – from a home to a church hall, the PE Club, the King Edward Hotel & Conference Centre, and finally Moffett on Main Lifestyle Centre, where it was able to attain expo status.”

With very few spots still available, potential stallholders were advised to submit their applications before the October 25 closing date, she said.

A number of non-profit organisations – including Reach for a Dream, SOS Children’s Village, Rotary Anns and The Hope Factory – had also been invited to participate free of charge, said Smuts.

“They will set up info stands and sell goods to raise awareness and funds for their organisations. So it would be great for the public to support them in the spirit of giving this Christmas.”

The event takes place in the Moffett on Main basement parking area from Thursday, November 28, to Sunday, December 1.
