CMR World Oceans Day Photo Competition 2023 - Conserve our Ocean for Future Generations

Celebrate World Oceans Day with the Institute for Coastal and Marine Research (CMR) and enter our competition by submitting two photographs: One of Hope, where you can see the effect of conservation measures in place and one of the Challenges we still face.

Submission Information:

• Submit all entries via e-mail to cmr@mandela.ac.za by 12:00 on Wednesday, 7 June 2023.

• The competition winner and runner-up will be contacted and with permission/consent, their names will be announced on World Oceans Day: Thursday, 8 June 2023.

• Please ensure that all terms and conditions are read and understood to ensure that submissions are eligible for consideration for the competition.

 

Terms & Conditions:

1. Entry is free. Submissions must be sent to cmr@mandela.ac.za by the competition deadline.

2. By entering this competition, the entrant agrees to be bound by all the terms and conditionsspecified.

3. All submissions must be the entrant’s own photographs. Entries may not be submitted on someone else’s behalf. Photographs may not be downloaded from the internet. Any submissions that do not comply with these regulations will be disqualified immediately.

4. Photographs submitted must be a minimum of 3MP (megapixels) in size. Photographs must be submitted in full resolution. This will ensure that images can be enlarged for display purposes.

5. Photographs must be titled with the entrant’s name, and entrants may submit a maximum of three entries to the competition.

6. Each photograph must be accompanied by a short title and a description, and a contact number for the entrant must be provided. Contact details will be used strictly for communication regarding notifying the competition winner and runner-up only. This information will not be shared and will be kept confidential as per The Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPI Act).

7. This competition is open to all South African CMR Members, Nelson Mandela University staff and students, and South African members of the public, except to those involved in the judging and running of the competition, and those directly employed by the CMR and their immediate family members. This includes Pro Dive/Katz Camera & Print employees and immediate family members.

8. Entrants acknowledge that the CMR is allowed to use all submissions for display, publicity, reporting, presentation, teaching and marketing purposes. This includes distribution and use on social media platforms as seen fit by the CMR. Photographers will be acknowledged and credited when submissions are used.

9. The CMR Office will confirm receipt of all entries. The CMR Office will not assume responsibility for any entries not received for whatever reason.

10. The judging panel has the right not to consider any submission deemed unsuitable for whatever reason.

11. This competition closes at 12:00 on Wednesday, 7 June 2023. No late entries will be accepted under any circumstances. Submissions will be evaluated by a judging panel, and the judging panel’s decisions are final. The competition winner and runner-up will be contacted and announced on World Oceans Day: Thursday 8 June 2023. Names will only be made known with permission/consent from the individuals.

12. The winner will receive a voucher for a Pro Dive Discover Scuba Diving Experience for two (2) individuals only. The course covers the basics of scuba diving and a session in the pool to familiarise yourself with the equipment. The Pro Dive voucher will be valid for three (3) months upon date of issue. These vouchers may not be transferred to another individual and is not redeemable for cash. No travel, accommodation or any other costs will be covered for the winner to attend the course. The minimum age range to attend the course is 10 years old.

13. The Katz Camera & Print voucher will be issued to the competition runner-up. The voucher prize may not be redeemed for cash and may not be transferred to another individual.
