Port Elizabeth, embrace the colours in you, says MBDA

Port Elizabeth, 11 SEPTEMBER, 2015: Culture, colour, city … with these three words the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) hopes to inspire Nelson Mandela Bay artists and residents to get together and embrace who they are at a collaborative cultural festival exhibition entitled Colours of You SA (COYSA).

The exhibition, which will take place at 4pm at Werk in Valley Road, Port Elizabeth, on Saturday, 10 October, aims to bring together people from all walks of life to celebrate their cultural heritage.

“COYSA wants to promote local talent, both up and coming as well as established comedians, artists and photographers from Nelson Mandela Bay. We are creating a platform for the artists to showcase their talent,” said Gerard Addison, founder of Colours of You SA.

This non-profit project was founded by Addison with a lot of help and support from his great friend Zinzi May, both Graphic Design graduates of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU).

A COYSA ‘Instabition’, an exhibition on social media platform Instagram, is already up and running, with well-known Port Elizabeth photographers such as Karl Schoemaker posting images of colour, culture and the city during Heritage month. This can be seen on https://instagram.com/p/7HgKyARwxH/

This collaborative exhibition in October promises live acting - with the crowd as directors, live music items and networking - while also providing an opportunity to appreciate art. An abstract Colours of You film will also be premiered at the event.

“COYSA will open people’s eyes to Port Elizabeth as a melting pot of diverse cultures, beauty and understanding, by celebrating our diversity through visual communication, music and comedic art.

“Anyone who has anything loud, proud or funny to say about SA, which embraces and connects our diverse cultures should join us. We want people to come together on this day, to embrace their love for art and celebrate their heritage, and we are humbled by MBDA’s continued support in making this happen,” said Addison.

MBDA Marketing and Communications Manager Luvuyo Bangazi said the innovative Instabition will also create an opportunity for people who cannot attend the exhibition to view the acts and art online.

“This is a great initiative that is giving local artists an opportunity to display their work to a wider audience who may not be able to view their talent in person,” said Bangazi.
