'Emergence' Solo Exhibition
08 October 2012 - 19 October 2012
passion was fashion. After completing studies in dress design and pattern cutting she ran a very successful business as a designer and personal stylist to a select clientele of local Port Elizabeth ladies, some of whom were her clients for more than 20 years.
After 25 years the yearning to paint became so strong that she decided to retire and to study fine art at NMMU. So the love of design and colour changed direction and she now finds her creative expression in painting and drawing.
This exhibition features paintings in acrylic and oils as well as mixed media drawings. The imagery is based her view that, in
Nature, order pervades throughout seeming chaos. Her work is directly influenced by her belief that the framework of reality is not the random product of a natural process, meaningless and undirected. She believes that nature is governed by natural laws that express themselves as symmetry, patterns and proportions; as well as numerical systems and geometric relationships.
Complimentary to this notion, another important influence in her work is the fact that all matter conducts itself according to fundamental rhythms that transcend scale. The macrocosm and the microcosm mirror each other. The process of order is inseparable from this concept.
Through a two dimensional process of abstraction in painting and drawing she explores these principles as they appear in plants and
stones.
Nature is Art. All the formal elements of art are evident in nature,
If we choose to be aware of them.
