Fracking
27 February 2013 - 27 February 2013
In order to help businesses, government, and the public to make informed and sustainable decisions on this process, the Wilderness Foundation will be hosting an awareness evening on fracking on Wednesday, February 27, 2013.
The Wilderness Foundation is a member of the SAFE (Sustainable Alternatives to Fracking and Exploration) Alliance which also includes the Treasure the Karoo Action Group (TKAG), the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) and the African Conservation Trust (ACT). The alliance was formed to act as a platform to oppose fracking and seek alternative, more sustainable development options for the targeted fracking areas.
Guest speaker, Jonathan Deal, will highlight some of the lesser known facts about fracking which have come to light through his extensive investigations into the process. Deal is chairman of the Treasure the Karoo Action Group (TKAG), and is one of the leading campaigners against hydraulic fracturing in this country. He recently won a court action requiring the Mineral Resources Minister to release the names of the task team assigned to assess the pros and cons of fracking following the release of the ministry’s insubstantial report late last year.
The event will take place at The Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheatre on Wednesday, 27 February from 18h30. It will include an information session hosted by Jonathan Deal, followed by a question and answer session hosted by Deal and Matthew Norval, conservation director of the Wilderness Foundation. The public are invited to submit questions to the Wilderness Foundation beforehand (email info@sa.wild.org) or pose their questions on the night.
