Go 2 Explore Expedition - Support the Chevrolet Jo

Going the extra mile for charity This year Leon Hugo, of Hugo Studio in Nelson Mandela Bay, will be going the extra mile to raise funds in aid of the Chevrolet Johan Botha Cycle for Charity as part of the annual Go 2 Explore expedition. Go 2 Explore is the brainchild of Hugo, who decided a few years ago to embark on an annual expedition to explore the world around him and document what he saw there through the camera lens. Hugo is passionate about photography and loves documenting people, animals and culture. He has travelled extensively throughout South Africa and surrounds, taking photos in the Eastern Cape, the Southern Cape, the Northern Cape, the Karoo, Kannaland, the Hexrivier Valley, Namaqualand and Namibia, to name a few. This trip will see Hugo, along with his three member support team, return to Namibia where they will travel approximately 7,250km in 22 days in a brand new Chevrolet Captiva, courtesy of General Motors South Africa. "There has been a lot of flooding in Namibia over the past month and a number of the roads are in quite a bad state, but knowing I'll be taking them on in the new Captiva has given me peace of mind," said Hugo. The journey kicks off from Port Elizabeth on the 22nd June 2011 and will see the intrepid photographer and his crew travelling through Upington, the Fish River Canyon, Luderitz, Sesriem, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Etosha National Park and Windhoek before returning back to the Bay on the 13th of July 2011. “My hope is to inspire people to go the extra mile to help those less fortunate, while also encouraging people to explore the world around them," Hugo said. Hugo aims to generate funds for the Chevrolet John Botha Cycle for Charity event by raising awareness of the event and getting corporates and individuals to make donations during his trip. "We are asking members of the community to pledge their support via the go2explore website and to deposit their funds directly into Cycle for Charity bank account," he said.
