ABSA KIRKWOOD WILDSFEES 2014 - Hug an Alpaca at the Wild 13

Alpacas, the “trendy” animals from the camelidae family with their floppy furry “bonnets”, slender necks, innocent eyes and modest smirks are the “it” girls and boys of the ungulate world.

Visitors will be able to touch and hug them at the thirteenth Wild Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees.
Farmers are being encouraged to include Alpacas in their mix.  The Alpaca has been domesticated for over 8 000 years says Alison Notley, owner at Helderstroom Alpacas.

During the Wildsfees, which will be taking place from Friday, June 27 until Sunday, June 29 festival goers will be able to watch fabulous Alpaca fleece, known as the “fibre of the gods”, being hand spun on traditional spinning wheels, which is then transformed into world-class finished knitwear.

“Alpaca is considered to have one of the finest animal fibres on the planet. It has a partly hollow fibre created by microscopic air pockets in the fibre shaft giving the finished garment wonderful insulation. Alpaca yarn has no lanolin in it. It is four to five times stronger than sheep wool and very soft and fine” says Notley.

Visitors to the festival will be able to compare Alpaca products with mohair, which is produced in the Eastern Cape.

On the entertainment front, festival goers can look forward to seeing Juke Box featuring Pieter Koen, MWAH, Ricus Nel and ADAM followed by Karlien van Jaarsveld, Bobby van Jaarsveld, and Pieter Smith (FAK), on the Friday evening.

On Saturday Elvis se Seun, Riana Nel, Dr. Victor and the Rasta Rebels, and the talented Emo Adams.
On Sunday relax and enjoy an afternoon with Dewald Wasserfall, the beautiful Blackbyrd, Elvis Blue and Mango Groove.

All the on-stage entertainment is included in the entrance fee to the festival.  Tickets are available from the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees office on 042 230 0064 or go to www.wildsfees.co.za for more information.
See you at the party Wildsfees goers.
