International Culture Fest 2017

The Office for International Education of the Nelson Mandela University is hosting the upcoming International Culture Fest on Saturday, 19 August from 11:00 – 15:00 at the Tramways Building in Baakens Valley, Port Elizabeth. The aim of this festival is to get the community of the Nelson Mandela Bay involved in our cultural activities and for us to showcase our appreciation for diversity on, as well as off campus.

This festival provides a platform for Nelson Mandela University students and members of the public from different cultures, religions and backgrounds to get together under one roof and celebrate the City’s rich cultural diversity.

The University’s International Students will be divided into their dif...ferent country stalls including France, South Africa, Nigeria, Swaziland, The Netherlands, Botswana, Malawi, Tanzania, Germany, Uganda and Zimbabwe and hand out samples of their own traditional cuisine to attendees, free of charge.

Local food vendors, each representing different cultural cuisines will include Taco Mia, Foongs, the Burger Guys, Fire Foods, the Bay Leaf Café, Shisa African Restaurant, and the German Club.

Other vendors not to be missed includes Micoffee, Han-Made Ice Cream, Chia Health Food, Banneton Bakery, Shake and Strain and Honeybox.

Be sure to be entertained by our jam packed 4 hour entertainment programme on stage consisting of some well-known bands featuring The Cottonfields and Irie Vibes Marimba Band, a Fusion Fashion show with CultureCut and Trench, as well as some other local talented artists from the Nelson Mandela Bay and the University. Performances will cover a wide range of cultures, from traditional African, to Indian right through to a Chinese Lion dance performance.

Entrance fee is R5, however Nelson Mandela University students can enter for free, only upon identifying themselves with their student ID cards. There will also be a shuttle service available between Summerstrand and the Tramways Building during the event for Nelson Mandela University students, but only upon identifying themselves with their student ID cards.
