The Journey of Hope Motorcycle Ride 2010 scheduled for October this year has as its main objective to raise awareness about breast cancer and to educate the South African public, both urban and rural communities, that by detecting breast cancer in its early stages, the chances of survival are excellent. Many women in South Africa die of this disease due to lack of information. This campaign brings a message of hope and encouragement in an upbeat, positive and unique manner - 25 women who are all breast cancer survivors will traverse the country on motorcycles to bring these key messages around breast cancer. The overall tone of the campaign promotes a fresh, positive, healthy, celebration of life approach which has strong resonance with lifestyle aspects. Because breast cancer not only affects the patient, but people around the patient, the approach of the campaign is to reach people across the country from all walks of life - from rural communities, schools and factories, thus bringing awareness and education to the communities who have restricted access to information. In addition, a massive sponsorship and fundraising drive will take place prior, during and after the Ride; to not only offset the expenses of the ride, but also to raise funds to make a difference in the lives of women who normally won’t have the luxury of Breast Screening or to buy a Prosthesis after losing a breast. The Journey of Hope's High Heel race at GVI oncology on the 13th October will be the stop over in Port Elizabeth by the ladies on their Harley Davidson's from the Journey of Hope. All proceeds will go to the Journey of Hope, generated from the High Heel race. For more information refer to www.journeyofhope.co.za
