LifeLine PE Suicide Safe Fund Raising Breakfast
On the 27th of January this year the infamous Van Stadens Bridge claimed its 78th victim. In the 4 days following a further 10 people were rescued from the bridge. During the month of February 2011 alone a total of 36 people were removed from the Van Stadens Bridge...... Each death or attempt leaves the PE community reeling – wondering what they could have done to prevent such a tragedy? LifeLine Port Elizabeth is hosting a “Suicide Safe” Fund Raising breakfast at the Radisson Blu Hotel on the 16th MARCH at 07h30 for 8h00. The guest speaker, leading Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University ethics academic and popular Herald columnist, Prof Piet Naudé, will talk on the role of moral intelligence and strong ethical convictions in emotionally well communities. Funds raised at the breakfast and other events will be used to create awareness in schools, the workplace and amongst the general public; build “suicide safe” communities; replace the faulty cameras on the Van Stadens Bridge, provide support to SAPS negotiators and offer on-going support to people who have been saved from the bridge LifeLine PE would like to thank Envestpro, National Lottery, Radisson Blu, Xerox, SpecSavers, Coke and Prof Piet Naude for their support Become part of the solution – contact the events coordinator: Ansie van der Westhuizen on 082-4662514 or email: events@lifelinepe.co.za
