Mandela Bay Arts Experience
The Nelson Mandela Bay performing artists, in collaboration with the PE Opera House, will be presenting the Mandela Bay Arts Experience, a Farewell Concert on at 15:00 Sunday, 24th June 2012 at the PE Opera House, Main Stage. This is a benefit concert for all those performing artists that will be taking part at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. This performance is a combined effort by local artists to provide support to each other when they are performing in Grahamstown. Although not in competition with Cape Town’s Urge (a similar attempt by Cape Town artists to provide to their peers), the Mandela Bay Arts Experience aims at ensuring that the local talent supports each other through networking and promoting each other’s works while in cold and highly competitive Grahamstown.
The Port Elizabeth Opera House is the coordinating entity ensuring that the project kicks off with few hassles despite the late start and that it is still in its infancy. In the spirit of Ubuntu, the Nelson Mandela Bay community and jazz and fun lovers are invited to come and say goodbye and contribute towards providing support to the groups going to Grahamstown.
Booking has already opened at Computicket, but tickets will also be available at the door at R50.00 per person.
This contribution will go towards assisting those groups that do not have funding for their performances at the National Arts Festival.
The groups that will be part of the concert are:
Shoelace (Rock music)
Shades of Blackness (Organic Hip Hop music)
Take Note (Jazz)
Beyond Belief of Brendon Peel (Magician)
The Three by John Dube (Drama)
Gift from the Stones by Simphiwe Vikilahle (Drama)
Plasma by Izandla Productions (Drama)
On the day of the concert, as at the Monument Sundowner during the National Arts Festival, the non-music groups will showcase snippets of their productions whilst the bands will give 30 minutes performances each.
