Kevin Perkins is Mike Naicker Comedy lovers cannot afford to miss South Africa’s favourite white Indian Mike Naicker as he makes his debut at the Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheatre for two side spitting shows on the 5 and 6 November. Michael Naicker, or ‘Super Mike’, to his friends, is the super-cool, rebel-without-a-clue, South African Indian comedy character, created by Kevin Perkins. Considered by Perkins to be his alter ego, Mike has taken South Africa’s comedy circuit by storm with his amazing humour. “The character I have created was born out of my life experiences. Mike Naicker is a working class Indian male. He loves fast cars, big sound systems, gambling, hot food and hot women. He fancies himself as a bit of a gangster and a ladies’ man and spends more than he should on modifications to his car. But that’s the kind of guy he is – image is everything”, says funny man Kevin Perkins when he describes his alter ego. An early highlight of Perkin’s career was being the first newcomer ever to be chosen to perform at South Africa’s premium comedy event, the Heavyweight Jam, in 2002. This break led to many popular performances including his first ever one man show at the Barnyard theatre in 2005. Since then, Perkins has enjoyed sold out performances in Johannesburg and Durban.
