Neil Diamond - The Jazz Singer Returns (Centrestage)

CENTRESTAGE’S NEIL DIAMOND SALUTE RETURNS TO PE AND EAST LONDON

Neil Diamond, one of the most beloved singer/songwriters of our generation, is the subject of Centrestage’s latest tribute show as the velvet voiced Andre Strydom says ‘Hello Again’ to his acclaimed role in ‘The Jazz Singer Returns’, set for a season at Old Grey at the end of May and at East London’s The Guild Theatre later in June.

The Centrestage All-Star band promises to triumphantly combine the worlds of Las Vegas with that of rock, providing a night steeped in sentimentality as the familiar Neil Diamond hits spanning from 1966 to today are given the Centrestage entertainment treatment.

In true raconteur style, Strydom sprinkles gentle love songs in between up-tempo rockers, as evergreens such as Forever in Blue Jeans, Song Sung Blue, Crackling Rosie, Desiree, Soolaiman, America, Longfellow Serenade, I Am I Said, America, Love on the Rocks, Yesterdays Songs and Sweet Caroline make up but a few of the top hits in the 2 hour show.
This performance is distinguished by being the first time that Centrestage has staged such a large scale production in the cabaret setting of Old Grey, providing patrons with the opportunity to enjoy this dynamic, big stage show up close in a chairs around tables environment.
The 8 piece band includes Fenlin Pitie and Deborah Everard on keyboards, Andrew Warneke on bass, Arno Erasmus on guitar and Devon Van Rooyen on drums, with Andre’s talented daughter Caron adding to the vocal and glamour department.

The show also introduces a brand new face in percussionist, acoustic guitarist and vocalist Jaco Viljoen, another fantastic musician to join the Centrestage team and a long-time Neil Diamond fan himself.

‘The Jazz Singer Returns’ is musically directed by Strydom himself, who trades his superb Barry Gibb falsetto for a Diamond baritone and will simultaneously apply the same kind of attention to detail and vocal harmony mix that he did when overseeing the previous acclaimed Bee Gees and Fleetwood Mac Centrestage hits under his auspices.

The Neil Diamond songbook guarantees a feel-good evening of familiar hits, top notch showmanship and a band of extremely talented musicians and entertainers of which the city can be very proud!

The Jazz Singer Returns will be staged at Old Grey on 28, 29 & 30 May before returning for two more nights on 5 & 6 June.

East Londoners can catch the show at the Guild Theatre on 12 & 13 June.

The shows start at 19:30 and tickets costing R150 or R130 for 8 or more are available through Computicket or call Wendy on 082 661 6921.
