Nelson Mandela Bay City Half Marathon
NELSON MANDELA BAY CITY HALF MARATHON – 4th release
TOTAL ROAD CLOSURE
There are 11 days left before the inaugural Nelson Mandela Bay City Half Marathon and 5km Fun Run – time to get your running shoes out, dust them off and enter yourself in this epic event. It will be history in the making with R350 000 worth of prizes up for grabs. With first prize for the male and female winners sitting at R35 000 each, it is the richest half marathon in South Africa which will be taking place on Saturday 15th November 2014.
Even the 5km Fun Run offers a huge prize of R1 200 in vouchers! Worth dusting your running shoes off!!!
The first Eastern Province male and female will receive R5 000, whilst second and third EP runners will bag R3 000 and R1 000 respectively.
This race will draw the biggest competitive field ever seen in Nelson Mandela Bay, which is why there is total road closure until approximately 11h00.
Roads will be closed from 5am from Driftsands along Marine Drive through to the back gate of NMMU. Athletes who enter before the cut-off date of 11th November 2014 will receive a vehicle pass (free of charge) which will allow access from Driftsands Road, or La Roche Drive, until 06h20. Any competitor who does not have a vehicle pass, or is late, will have to gain access at the crossover point at 8th Avenue Summerstrand and Beach Road (Pick ‘n Pay centre).
These vehicle passes will also be available at registration and late entries on Friday evening at the Summerstrand Life Saving Club from 16h30 till 19h30 on 14th November. The bright yellow passes must be clearly visible, preferably attached to the windscreen.
It is worth noting that should anyone need to leave early, they should not park on the sea side of Beach Road as no one will be able to leave before the race is over for safety reasons.
Entry forms are available at all the usual sports shops, or online on whereinpe.co.za. The entry fee is R60 for the half marathon and R20 for the fun run. Athletes must run in official club colours with the race number on the front and the licence number on the back of their vests. All finishers will, apart from medals in the form of key rings and bottle openers, receive a free pocket size Coke, the latest from SABCO. Prize giving is in the Coca Cola arena at 11h15.
This event is being organised as a combined effort between Madiba Bar Warriors, Ikhamva Club and Achilles AAA on behalf of EPA in accordance with the rules and regulations of ASA and EPA.
