One Blood Music Festival celebrate sixth festival
There is an international flavour to the sixth annual One Blood Music Festival being staged in Port Elizabeth this March.
Headline acts for this year’s festival will be Johannesburg-based hip hop artist “Reason” together with international Jamaican reggae artist Iqulah.
They will be joined by a number of well know bands from all over the Eastern Cape.
In order to showcase local talent the festival has given Eastern Cape record labels an opportunity to feature their artists on stage, says festival director Nomakhomazi Dyosopu.
“This year the event is going to be the best to date, with a wide variety of music genres suited for the people of Port Elizabeth,” she says.
The festival, which is being held at the Grand Hotel on Saturday, March 21, will also provide a showcase for local graphic artists, sculptors and crafts people.
“We believe that art and culture play a significant part in the development of black businesses, urban renewal and development of local economies.
“The festival is therefore not a once off event, but rather a platform for local artists and creative entrepreneurs to showcase their talent to a wider audience,” says Dyosopu.
One Blood has organised a series of workshops for local performers ahead of the festival “to raise the bar and to allow local artists to raise the bar on their performances,” she says.
Local artists booked for the festival include Lefa Mosea and the double Standard Quintet, Northern Areas Hip Hop, Catalyst and Hidden Prospect, Skank and the Roots, Static Flo, and Third Generation.
Tickets can be purchased from Computicket for R80 per person or R100 at the door.
