Pop Lock n roll Film Auditions
Pop Lock N Roll SAs dance film will be holding auditions in PE on the 7th of February 2013 at the Town Hall form 9am for the characters that follow.
If you think you match the criteria for one of the below characters then email your CV to auditions@joziewood.com and state which character you would like to audition for.

RAPS
Male. 20’s. Coloured. Cape Flats. B-Boy. Attitude. Sexy.
Raps is the lead character of the film. He comes from a poor neighbourhood, which has taught him to be street smart and a hustler. As a lightie he grew up dancing with other kids in the neighbourhood who were inspired by hip-hop, they do mainly B-boy moves. He always danced for fun/recreation, but he’s at a point now in life where he’s ready to put dance behind him because it takes up too much time and he needs to focus on ‘real work’ that pays the bills. That’s because his parents have recently passed away and left him to take care of his younger brother Earl. Raps is an instinctive sweet talker, he’s the kind of guy who can arrive late for a job interview and still talk his way in because he knows exactly where and how to compliment people. Sometimes, in fact all to often, Raps can be outspoken and arrogant, he’s honest with what he feels and wears his heart on his sleeve.

People who will be considered for the role should tick as many of the following boxes:
Look the part, be able to deliver the Cape Flats accent.
Have acting experience.
Dance experience.
Good looks.
QUEEN
Female. 20’s. Brazilian. Natural Beauty. Singer. Mixed Race or Black.
Queen is the female lead of the film. She’s originally from Brazil, a natural beauty with a snappy temper. She’s an exceptional singer, has a husky voice and big eyes that can stare deep into a persons soul. What makes Queen so unbelievably attractive is that she doesn’t try and be beautiful or dolled up. She’s a smoker and occasional whiskey drinker, she prefers hanging with men than woman, she likes strong personalities and intelligence. The irony with Queen is that she’s married to a gangster (Valentine) of whom she takes abuse. That’s because of two reasons, one is because Valentine found her singing in bars in Brazil and has since saved her from a life of poverty, so she’s loyal to him. And two because if she’s really honest she doesn’t believe in love and takes pleasure in the money that Valentine comes with. The connection between Queen and Raps is that they both get one another, they can read into one anothers fake exterior when its there.

People to be considered for the role should tick these boxes:
Look the part.
Have acting experience.
Salsa experience, or be able to learn it fast.
Natural beauty.
Be able to deliver a convincing Portuguese/Brazilian accent.
Great singing voice.
FREDDY
Male. 20’s. Coloured. Either Overweight, Skinny or somewhat Unattractive.
Freddy plays a supporting role in the film and is the comic relief. He’s best friend to Raps, he’s a game and technology junkie, a food lover and exercise hater. Freddy can build a computer from scratch and learn a new program overnight. His favourite person in the world is his pug who he takes everywhere with him. Freddy is slightly out of touch with reality because he spends so much time at home on the internet and not enough time with people. Those that know him love him for his honesty, and that’s because he’s oblivious to what might be the correct thing to say. He’s out of touch, but cute.

People to be considered for the role should:
Look the part.
Have acting or comedy experience, or both, but really be able to deliver humour.
EARL
Male. Early Teens. Coloured.
Earl is the younger brother of the lead character - Raps. Earl is at a confusing time in his adolescent life in that he wants to be cool and respected and has begun hanging out with the bad boys at school who smoke cigarettes and know gangsters. Deep inside Earl is a good kid and a great scholar but because his parents have passed away recently there is no one to properly guide him in the right direction.

People to be considered for the role should:
Look the part and speak or know how to speak with a Cape Flats accent.
Be doing drama lessons at school
CAPTAIN
Male. Late Teens. Coloured.
Captain claims to be a member of the infamous Cowboys gang but in reality he’s a con artist and a manipulator who is trying to use younger kids to do illegal dirty work for him. There is something comical about Captain in that he overdoes the gangster look to the point of being cheesy and silly, his clothes are far too baggy, he wears too much cheap jewellery and he walks with his chin too high and too much ‘swag’ in step. Anyone who knows anything about the Cowboys would know that Captain is a fake, but younger kids who know no better can be tricked by him.

People to be considered for the role should:
Look the part and how to speak with a Cape Flats accent.
Have some drama experience.
CHICCO
Male. 30’s or early 40’s. Coloured. Gangster. Eccentric and Intimidating.
Chicco plays a supporting role in the film. He’s a complex character, an eccentric gangster from the Cape Flats with a tortured soul. Chicco trades in the underworld of arms dealing. He’s under the pretence that selling guns has never hurt anybody, only people hurt people. He has a twisted sense of humour and a wacky dress sense. He finds humour in the strangest and sometime dangerous situations, like the time he held an auction between two opposing gangs who were buying guns to kill off one another. What makes people scared of Chicco is his unpredictability, you’ll never know for sure how he’s going to react, he has no pattern that can be read. Chicco can be compared to Mike Tyson in that he’s aggressive, weird, might appear doff but can hold a long conversation about African politicks and human nature, and then head butt you for saying something he disagrees with.

People to be considered for the role should tick these boxes:
Look the part.
Convincing actor or type cast.
Be intimidating and off beat.
