SATSA Ignite Your Passion Youth Month Event

The SATSA AID (Access, Inclusivity and Diversity) board committee is pleased to introduce South African youth to the tourism industry, and thus working towards sustainably transforming the country’s tourism and hospitality industry. Although tourism contributed close to 9% of South Africa’s GDP prior to the Covid-19 pandemic with South Africa being a leader in international tourism arrivals on the continent, young and previously disadvantaged peoples of South Africa have traditionally been excluded from the tourism value chain.

As the SATSA AID board committee we are drivers of Access, Inclusivity and Diversity in South Africa’s inbound tourism;

Access

We believe that sustainable transformation can only become evident in SATSA’s membership when grassroots, township, rural and undiscovered urban tourism businesses are given access to information and resources needed to develop their businesses to operate in the main value chain.

Inclusivity

We believe that in order to create space for grassroots businesses in SATSA, we ought to meet these businesses where they are and assist to build them up. We believe in lending a helping hand, not a hand-out, and walking the journey with grassroots businesses in partnership with public stakeholders and established businesses.

Diversity

SATSA stands for inclusion of all sexes, races, cultures, geographical locations, inbound tourism businesses into its membership and represented in the Board.

THE OBJECTIVE

  • The objective of the #IgniteYourPassion Youth Event in celebration of Youth Month in South Africa is;
  • To engage Grade 11 and 12 Tourism students in high school in order to provide a practical view of the opportunities available to them in the tourism industry
  • To encourage young people to be the army of entrepreneurs, developing much needed new tourism product for both domestic and international markets, as opposed to only aspiring to being employed in tourism and hospitality
  • To connect youth studying tourism with key stakeholders in the Department of Tourism, private tourism business, and higher education institutions one platform where all of their questions may be answered
  • To create awareness amongst young people of the business community available to support them through SATSA
