As promised the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will host one of the City's flagship events, Splash Festival from Saturday (30 March 2013) to Monday (01 April 2013). This year's Festival promises to have a bumper to bumper programme filled with family entertainment.
The municipality appointed an experienced events company, Soul Good to organize this important festival which attracts thousands of people, both within and outside the City.
This year's Splash Festival will see the usual features that the Splash Festival enthusiasts have come to love and expect. Water features, food and shopping stalls, fire works display and children's fun and games will form part of the program. The highlight of the event, according to the organizers is "the best fire works display that the City has ever seen in many years".
The water features include, surf swim, beach sprints, Wind surfing and Malibu Board Racing. The children and family entertainment will include, clowns, jumping castles, hypnotists and performing arts acts. Food and shopping stalls will continue to be a prominent feature of the event.
As a social responsibility, the organizers have given the water features and stalls running to Hobie Beach Life Saving Club and Community Chest respectively. The proceeds made in both features will go straight to the two organizations.
Local artists will be the main feature during the three day event. It has been evident in the past events that Nelson Mandela Bay communities appreciate and enjoy performances from their own artists. It is for this reason that the municipality has positively responded to that.
As part of the contractual obligations that the municipality expects from the organizers, is a social responsibility. The company that wins the contract is supposed to plough back to the community through development initiatives and sponsorship to non-governmental organizations and poor communities.
Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Portfolio Chairman, Babalwa Lobishe said the Splash Festival was an event that is made for the people. "We are looking forward to a successful festival that will be a true family affair. People from within and out of the City must come in numbers and enjoy the Friendly City," said Lobishe.
Currently the organizers are busy erecting the stage in Hobie Beach in preparation of the event. It is all systems go for the event that has found a place for itself in national calendar of events.
