It will be staged on The Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheatre stage by Cape Town-based Main Events SA.
“Kaapse Jol” producer Jayson King is no stranger to his Port Elizabeth fans for his renowned show “The Great Pretenders”.
The “Kaapse Jol” musical will take the audience on a musical journey back to the days when the Capetonian artists performed on the streets using the pavements as their stage and the street lights as their spot lights.
Songs that will be heard include songs such as “Daar kom die Alabama” (a boat that would bring a new beginning and free them from captivity), “Die moffie van die kaap”, “Hoe ry die Kaapse trein”, “Welcome to Cape Town”, “Abassie se worsies”, “Klop Klop” and “Rosa” (a song sung in Dutch and still a firm favourite in Cape Town today) to mention just a few.
Also songs from Shirley Bassey- “Never, Never, Never, Goldfinger”, Matt Monro- “Portrait of my love”, Gloria Gaynor; “I will survive”, Louis Armstrong – “Hello Dolly” , Nat “King” Cole – “Unforgettable, Smile” ,and Al Jolson - “Mammy” to mention a few.
Making up the cast will be Sumaya Hendricks, Deeno Abrahams, Gammat Meniers, Ruth Knight, Zurayda Abrahams, Jayson King, Dennis Maart, George Sammi and the Jollers vocal group.
“Kaapse Jol” will take place on Saturday, August 9 at seven thirty in the evening at The Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheatre.
Tickets will cost R120.00 per person from Computicket or at the door from seven in the evening.
The Garden Route, East London and Johannesburg’s “Kaapse Jol” is already sold out so make sure you get your tickets today to avoid missing this one night show.
Fundraising organisations can purchase 50-500 tickets for R70.00, which they can resell for R120.00.
