The Sound of Music - AUDITIONS

Do you have the star power to be the next Maria starring in an all new production of The Sound of Music?  The world fell in love with Julie Andrews in the 1965 film of this all-time favourite musical and audiences have taken this beloved show to their hearts in countless productions.  It has been 17 years since The Sound of Music was last seen in Port Elizabeth and The Port Elizabeth Theatrical Initiative, in association with the P.E. Gilbert and Sullivan Society is thrilled to announce the return of this classic musical which will light up the Savoy Theatre stage in September this year.  The search for Maria and the von Trapp family as well as a large ensemble will be held at auditions over the weekend of the 24 – 26^th May 2019 at Alexander Road High School.

PETI is a collective of local theatre organisations and individuals with the goal of bringing top quality musical productions to PE audiences.  Their first production was the critically acclaimed South African premiere of The Producers in 2010 followed by a collaboration with The Performer’s Studio and Alexander High School with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in 2012. This year the G&S Society teams with PETI to bring to life this classic musical.

The production team of the Sound of Music is a “who’s who” of local musical theatre, with Greg Everard, fresh from directing Alexander Road High Schools stunning production of Cinderella, in the Director’s chair. Grey High School’s music maestro Shawn Lyon is Musical Director and popular local professional teacher and entertainer, Chireen Ferreira will choreograph. 

This family show calls for people of all ages, experience levels and backgrounds to tell the story of young Maria Rainer who is sent to be the governess to the seven von Trapp children and steals their hearts as well as that of their distant and disciplinarian father.

All adults will be asked to do a singing audition on Friday evening, 24/5/19 and children auditioning for the roles of the von Trapp children will sing during the day on Saturday 25/5/19 and go into a dance audition at 16:00.  All call backs will be held on Sunday 26/5/19.
