Uncle Jumbos Christmas Party is back
27 November 2010 - 11 December 2010
This year the show will run from November 27 to December 11. Uncle Jumbo's will once again take place at Featherbank Farm, Heatherbank Road in Charlo, which proved to be a magical venue last year!
Uncle Jumbo's Christmas Party is an annual fundraising event of the Rotaract Club of Port Elizabeth, assisted by the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth. The show aims at children between two and ten years of age. Of course, they can bring their parents along to join in the fun.
In a farm-like atmosphere with a magical castle in the background, the children enter a world of make-believe. Uncle Jumbo takes them on a journey filled with fun and games, snacks and surprises and special guests like Noddy and his car, Big Ears, Mr Plod and more. The famous Boys Brigade Band will play their hearts out while an entourage of clowns entertain the children. But for most kids the highlight of the evening is seeing Father Christmas.
The reason for hosting Uncle Jumbo's Christmas Party is an evening for underprivileged children. The Rotaract Club invites orphaned or disabled children from various homes, to come and enjoy the festivities. Besides its wonderful show, the Club presents all children with dinner and presents on this special night. Local businesses can contribute towards making this evening a success with food or gift donations, or by sponsoring one of the children. Please contact Madeleine Smuts on 082 978 4115 for more details.
Uncle Jumbo's Christmas began in 1964 when the late Jumbo Featherstone created "Uncle Jumbo" and his Christmas Party for the first time. His legacy lives on in this exciting show featuring many of the original characters.
An event like this does not happen overnight. It takes much hard work and preparation, starting six months in advance. All Rotaract members involved gladly put in their time and energy to make it work. Seeing the children so excited and happy makes all their efforts worth every second.
Tickets are available from October 9 to November 26 outside Foschini in Walmer Park at the Information Kiosk at R35 for children and R30 for adults. Once the show has started, tickets will still be available at Walmer Park, however at an additional surcharge of R10 per ticket they can be purchased at the Uncle Jumbo’s Venue (subject to attendance and availability on the evening.)
