The YCA will be hosting its cricket week in the first week of the holidays as it has done for the last 10 years. This festival will be in the form of cricket matches for all ages. Many of the older boys have remarked on how little cricket they have received at school this term due to exams and are really looking forward to playing a proper cricket match everyday for 6 days. Please find attached the letters with all the dates, times and costs for this event, including the details about the prize giving on the 17th of December.
Pre-school Matches: These matches will see the coaches play a big role in their matches, by not only showing the players how to play, but also throwing the balls to ensure each child gets a fair opportunity. As always the groups will be small and age specific. Due to the festival being 6 days long the daily duration has been shorted by an hour to 3 hours from 08:00 – 11:00. Every child will be called up on stage and receive a certificate at the prize giving, which is a confidence building experience that should not be missed.
Gr. 1 – 2 Matches: These matches will be played with soft balls (unless you child is already playing hard ball, in which case please refer to the u/10 section), with each child getting equal batting and bowling opportunities facilitated by their coaches and small age specific groups. It is a great opportunity for children to interact with children from other schools and get an idea what it is like to be part of teams made up of strangers on day 1 who become friends by day 6. This will also be for 3 hours per day from 08:00 – 11:00. Every child will be called up on stage and receive a certificate at the prize giving, which is a confidence building experience that should not be missed.
U/10, U/11 and U/13 matches: These cricket matches will be played on good cricket pitches, with new balls for every innings as cricket matches at school are played. The children will be split according to age and ability to ensure that every cricketer will be in a section where he feels comfortable and can play cricket matches that appear to be in short supply this short school term. Batting and bowling orders will be rotated by the coaches to ensure that every child has an equal opportunity. This is an awesome opportunity for children to practice (with the coaches guidance) what they have been working on in the nets, against players of their own ability, ensuring tight tough games for all levels of cricketer.
High School Cricket Week: Please feel encouraged to request high school enrolment forms for the Senior Cricket Academy, which will also be having its Cricket Week over the same period.
The fees have been kept the same as they were last year to encourage parents to make this opportunity available to their enthusiastic young cricketers.
• Preschool – Grade 2: R375.00 for all 6 days including daily drinks and the big prize giving.
• U/10 - U/13: R450.00 for all 6 days including daily drinks and evening prize giving that will have snacks for the cricketers and parents after the awards are handed out.
Please note that this term closes on the 10th of December and that lessons will continue to that date. I have attached a letter from my accounts lady should anyone have any account queries as we draw to the end of this term.
